6,000 Miles!!!

Today, the weather in Denver was nice.  We had a high somewhere around 50, and after a FULL year of biking, I finally reached one of my biking goals.  I needed 34.5 miles to hit 6,000 for the year, and I rode 35.3.  Of all of the mileage goals I've set over the years, this is the first I hit.  With as many miles as I've ridden, I hope it springboards me into 2009 for a successful year of riding.  The Leadville winter mountain bike racing series is right around the corner!!

Todays commute

I bought my Gary Fisher Rig because I wanted a different mountain bike from my Fuel, which is my racing bike.  Also, its main purpose was to be a commuter.  It is a little overboard for a commuter, but is seems all my bikes area  a little overboard, so why break the trend.  I also would love to be able to commute to work and other things year around if possible.  I hate riding bikes indoors.  Todays ride to work was a bit of a test.  When I left to go to the gym at 5:45 this morning, the temperature was 8 degrees, and the wind chill was -2.  I dressed in a lot of layers, and was fine.  More bike time equals less car time equals great for everyone, especially me.  Plus, GTRI is going to participate in the $20 a month for commuting to work starting January!

New and news!

Myspace is lame, and I never update that anyway.  Even though it was 50 in Denver yesterday, I guess it is winter, so maybe this will be updated more often, who knows.  Today, it was cold as heck.  The key here is differentiation.  Yesterday, some friends and I rode 65 miles on road bikes (most of us, anyway), today, because of the bone chilling cold, I climbed indoors with a friend.  I still ride my bikes quite a bit, but in Colorado, there are many more things to do.  Lately, to change things up, I have been climbing a bit.  I've been outside a few times, but I have a group of friends that go indoors somewhat frequently.  It is nice to try different active things.  Cross training, a great way to stay in shape, and not get burnt out on activities.  This winter, I may (gulp) run for a little bit if I am unable to bike to and from work.  So far, commuting has gone well.  I have biked to work a handful of times with temps less than 20 degrees and in the dark.  One night I even had to bike home in snow.  I bought cross country skis, and will hopefully soon learn this as well.  Oh, and I still ride quite a bit as I am within striking distance of 6,000 miles for the year.
